  • The course provided extensive training in editing, sub editing, newsroom exercises, media law, and journalistic fundamentals providing a solid academic foundation upon which to build writing styles and ethics. I excelled in television production, earning a 1st in that particular module. I can also write Teeline shorthand up to 100wpm.
  • Dissertation received 2:1 (68%): outlined potential flaws in some of the fundamentals of television news. Titled: ‘Is Television News a Catalyst for Compassion Fatigue?’

JVC Adixxion Prototype Tester, The Adventurists, Mongol Rally         JUNE – SEPTEMBER 2013

  • Tasks: Obtaining footage, editing and finding ways to send material to The Adventurists from wherever possible on a 10,000 mile charity rally to Mongolia. Tasked to experiment with features and provide constructive feedback for new camera and related products.

  • From being held at gunpoint to bartering for spare tyres using hand signals, this has provided a unique perspective on how to approach new problems and challenges.

  • Tasks: Image sourcing, photo editing, transcribing, logging, writing material, and editing.

  • Role required utmost diligence, discretion and considerable responsibility from the outset.

  • Voluntarily research stories in spare time to find content for relevant topical programs. The Community Channel is the UK’s only digital television station dedicated to highlighting issues from the community, voluntary and charitable sector, both locally and internationally.

  • Gained wide experience with working in teams to pursue daily budgets and other deadlines. Also gained invaluable understanding of brand representation and development.

Work placement, Twofour Productions, Plymouth                                                       MARCH 2012

  • Assigned to the BBC Horizons team, tasked with producing vignettes, transcribing, research, editing and crew liaison. Also worked on Chanel 4’s Homes of the Future.

  • The placement developed a further understanding of how the industry operates as a whole and provided a solid foundation of essential skills for television production.

  • Tasks: image sourcing, photo editing, writing material, and sub editing, compiling a databank of information on various construction yards, brokerages, and cruising destinations in preparation for a new website.

Face to face fundraiser, Royal National Lifeboat Institution          MAY 2009 – SEPTEMBER 2011

  • The RNLI employs a selection of highly enthusiastic, energetic and motivated individuals to approach members of the public on beaches and at specific events to encourage regular contributions to the charity. This involved applying skills like paralinguistics, emotional intelligence, and even NLP (Neuro-linguistic programming)

  • Proven ability in the area of influencing and convincing others. Signed up over 200 new supporters, generating up to £60,000 for the RNLI over the next five years.

  • President of Camborne School of Mines Hockey Club (2011 – 2012): Chairman for five field hockey teams; two girls’ teams and three men’s teams. Came first place in the Davis Wood Division 2 League.

  • Director of Radiowave, student radio station (2010 – 2012):  Two years of running a core team of 4, overseeing over 60 presenters who broadcast to a peak audience of potentially 500 people.

  • Co-chair of the FXU Olympics Committee (2011 – 2012): responsible to run events and activities in accordance with the Department of Health’s ‘Be a Champion’ program.

This required funding proposals, producing and publishing press releases in addition to sufficient planning, and organisational management skills.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:_________________________________________________

  • Adobe Photoshop ACA Certification (2012): Attained a certificate in Adobe Photoshop demonstrating advanced technical and creative abilities in digital publishing, image editing and shared project management. I worked with the CS5.5 and CS6 versions.

  • IT Skills: MAC and MS Office proficient, Adobe Creative Suite CS6 (InDesign, Photoshop, Adobe Bridge). Strong social media skills including Hootsuite, Shortstack and Facebook Developer.

  • Shorthand: Teeline Shorthand Certificate – 80wpm

INTEREST AND HOBBIES:_________________________________________________

Screen writing, filmmaking, mandolin, hockey, rugby, and windsurfing. Currently applying for funding to build a 16mm Cine-filmmakers Guild locally, working on expanding a video production portfolio for potential MA film making applications. I have been known to use a guitar and hockey stick interchangeably and I occasionally partake in tractor racing.
